Doctor Appointment in the Gym

My wife and I visited Columbus in August of 2019 to see our old friend Dr. Eric Serrano MD. Our appointment was in his home gym and not his medical office as we sought new training techniques to help us earn greater rates of progress. Dr. Serrano asked several questions about injuries, weaknesses in certain areas and goals before taking us through an excellent training session.

The exercises we learned to address areas of weakness were challenging, however they did not cause any joint discomfort which is a top priority. My lower back has been extremely tight and I wanted to identify new ways to squat without causing injury. My wife asked Dr. Serrano for glute exercises to increase activation while improve development which led to the band tension exercise starting from the floor with the feet elevated. I tried that exercise as well and each of the three foot positions created a different contraction to recruit different cross sections of the glute.

We really enjoyed the Cluster 6 Pause Great Arm Training System executions Dr. Serrano put into place for upper and lower body movements. The sets lasted two to three minutes and created excellent pumps! Each set contained 36 reps which became extremely challenging towards the end of the set, however we were stronger than we thought and just needed some encouragement from Scott Mendelson and Dr. Serrano.

Glute Raise with Band Tension Eric Serrano MD

Glute Raise with Band Tension add the most strategic challenge at the top range of motion for excellent glute recruitment. Dr. Eric Serrano MD developed this exercise as an improvement over holding a barbell across the lap which does not allow for full range of motion.

Charla and I had been stuck using the same techniques for a long time and sensed things were very stale. We now realize that rotating new training protocols regularly that make sense for our specific needs will be a key to success ongoing. We are looking forward to our next visit with Dr. Serrano and Scott to show them the progress we have made. Most importantly we want to learn new techniques when we make our next visit to Columbus.

By the way I ( Rick ) have lost 12 pounds of body fat since our visit by starting the 100% MR, Muscle Synthesis Powder, Alpha Omega M3, EZ14 and GCX10. I have not done any cardio or dieted at all, not one change to my eating habits, possibly worse on the go as work has been extremely busy. My recovery between training sessions is great and I am very well fueled for training signaled by the increased rep capacity.
