Well designed interval sprints workouts can burn a tremendous amount of calories, but the key to success is elevated fat burning markers including metabolism and hormones for the following 24 to 48 hours.  Our strive for 5 training sessions per week which may include three time efficient weight training and two short interval workouts supports peak rates of fat burning throughout the 7 day week.*

Steady state cardio causes fat storage

The foundation of a great male physique is rock solid muscle. Below we list out a perfect day of eating combined with two distinctly different weight training sessions to maximize rates of muscle growth. Not only does new muscle improve the physique, but also builds up the size of the calorie burning engine necessary to have a lot of muscle combined a low body fat percentage over the long term.  Take the next 4 to 12 weeks to focus on packing on muscle which also naturally peaks testosterone while reviving metabolism.

Bring an aggressive attitude to the gym to drive weekly weight load increases with proper form and tempo.  You can only maximize your muscle gains with the right mental approach and confidence in your plan.

Weight training strategically twice per day is one of the advanced tactics we have used to help clients gain muscle much faster.  This is not just a matter of slapping together a couple of training routines to be done on the same day. Two-A-Day Training strategies

There must be method to the madness which we can discuss in greater detail during a future article.  In general the morning session will use higher loading with low to medium rep ranges which will be more taxing on the nervous system.  Positioning a medium to high rep session 4 to 6 hours later for the same body parts takes full advantage of the muscle fiber stimulation created during the morning session.

Timing is everything

The ischemic strength training chest and back workout is an example of great morning session while 25-15-10-5 training fits perfectly 4 to 6 hours later.  Here is another ground breaking strategy we use for advanced clients who must gain muscle as fast as possible.  During the second week of a two-A-Day training strategy switch the session order to 25-15-10-5 to the morning and ischemic strength training to the afternoon.  This order change up minimizes neurological adaptation to the training tactics leaving more opportunities to expose muscle fibers to maximum stimulation leading to growth.

GCX10 becomes especially important for the second training session as the muscles are in need of critical ATP to fuel an excellent training session. A strength balancing act

You will find very quickly that curling the 45 pound barbell is much harder than curling a 45 pound dumbbell due to the difference in lever length.  Most trainees will need to start with a much lower weight to execute the proper form which is perfectly fine.

Feeling Better now than in my 20’s

The six second lowering phase of each rep will make the set last just under 50 seconds which will feel like an eternity.  As a point of reference a set done by Joe average in the gym lasts 20 seconds or less with sloppy form.  Controlling the lowering phase of every rep wakes up the nervous system and forces the muscles to engage with greater purpose.  The extended set time durations with challenging loading can access a greater number of muscle fibers while driving up lactic acid levels associated with sky high levels of fat burning hormones.*

Use the same challenging weight load for the finishing set that was used during the first 24 rep set.  Yes it is highly likely that you will fail before getting 10 reps. Instead of quitting on this fat burning opportunity stop one rep short of failure and pick up a reduced weight load to finish the set.  A training partner is essential for motivation, assistance, form instruction and safety.

Weights that normally are easy to manage feel like a ton due to the pre fatigue created by the first two sets.  This is perfectly normal.  The key to recruiting a greater number of muscle fibers is to execute perfect reps under these extreme conditions.  During the video Scott H. Mendelson gets 2 reps in the first two pressing stations with 100 pound dumbbells.  Opting not to quite Scott picks up 75 pound and finally 50 pound dumbbells to finish the set with proper form.

We design personalized training programs which feature strategic changes to the number of sets, reps, tempos and rest periods over the course of a six week routine to drive performance progress.  Small improvements in weight load from week to week make a huge difference in the bottom line body composition transformation.  Accepting the conclusion that you can use the same weight load for 6 weeks and just coast through training is a wasted opportunity.*

Thinking beyond the first week of training

Evaluating client weight loads and other feedback often requires additional program changes to be made to support the fasted possible rates of client progress.  Years of experience supporting clients earn great arms helps us make the right program adjustments.

Improvement matters

During the videos Scott H. Mendelson mentions the importance of beating the week one performance during week two by improving on the number of reps during the strip set.  The weight load should increase incrementally while executing the proper form and tempos during the six week program as well especially when using the GCX10 30 minutes before training sessions.  The staggering amount of ATP within the GCX10 can increase peak power and strength endurance to ensure the first set of ischemic work does not crush you right then and there.*

Two sets does not seem like enough work

Do not be deceived by what seems to be an easy training session based on the low number of sets.  Two sets of ischemic training will feel like you have done four of the toughest sets of your life.

Ischemic training executions do not require more than two sets per movement in a majority of cases to create a great training effect.  The ferocity of these methods make it very easy to over train so we would not recommend increasing the number of sets listed below.

The strip sets following the ischemic work take full advantage of the conditions created by the first couple sets of the training session.  A large number of muscle fibers are exposed during the ischemic sets making the strip sets well timed to stimulate a broad cross section of muscle fibers.

Long of the biceps targeting

Most biceps training over emphasizes the short head of the muscle with common exercises. Seated incline curl positions target the long head to develop a fuller muscle. Starting the three movement complexes with the hardest exercises creates pre fatigue conditions for the second and third exercises which further improves development.

Triceps tactics

The biceps training complex difficulty imposes significant neurological demand.  As a result we chose strategic cable movements to target the triceps.  Pay close attention to the proper body position during the triceps movements to keep valuable tension the muscles instead of the joints.  We performed several pressing movements during another upper body workout during this particular week.  The triceps respond very well to pressing movements, however repeating these elements twice in a week is not productive.

Special executions:

*break set into two parts- half reps seated and rest standing

^6 reps with left arm, 6 reps with right arm, 6 reps with left arm and finally 6 reps with right arm to complete one set.

Form notes:

During the seated curl movements look straight ahead by picking a visual focus spot on the ceiling. Do not flex the neck forward during the exercise. On the bottom of the curl keep at least 10 degrees of flexion in the elbows to prevent unnecessary joint stress.

Use an athletic knee position during the triceps exercises and keep the chest upright. Do not lean forward during the triceps movements which otherwise can overstress the shoulders, elbows and wrists. Start each triceps exercise with the weaker arm.

Been there- done that
